DC Fintech Week will host a panel titled “Stablecoins Unshackled: New features, Integrations and Frontiers” on Wednesday morning.
Speakers include José Fernández da Ponte, CEO of PayPal Digital; Cuy Sheffield, Head of Cryptocurrency at Visa. and Anna Yuan, founder of stablecoin infrastructure provider Perena. Robby Greenfield, CEO and Founder of Umoja Labs, will moderate the discussion.
Stablecoins (cryptocurrencies that promise to lock a fixed value into another asset) are primarily used for trading on centralized and decentralized exchanges, and as collateral in decentralized finance. However, uses for stablecoins beyond trading are growing in popularity. For payment companies, it has the potential to cut out intermediaries and process transactions with more transparency, efficiency and lower costs.
After plummeting in 2023, stablecoin market capitalization has reached record levels in recent weeks. Wall Street’s Bernstein said stablecoins are “systemically important,” noting that the stablecoin issuer is currently the 18th largest holder of U.S. Treasuries.
