Madrid-based startup Therapyside uses AI tools to improve the connection between therapists and clients, and employs NVIDIA technology to streamline therapy processes and improve session productivity.
In an effort to bridge the gap in mental health services, Madrid-based startup Therapyside is equipping therapists with advanced AI tools that strengthen the connection between therapist and client. The initiative comes as the World Health Organization highlights significant disparities in mental health resources, with only 13 mental health workers per 100,000 people worldwide.
Therapeutic partnership powered by AI
Therapyside, a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, uses NVIDIA NIM inference microservices to power its online therapy platform. These AI-driven services act as virtual assistants and note-takers, allowing therapists to focus on interacting with clients and not worrying about manual note-taking.
Alessandro De Sario, Founder and CEO of Therapyside, emphasizes the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance, saying, “Therapists can focus on the session without worrying about taking notes.” “Hopefully, we can reach a level of trust and connection sooner.” ”
AI tools in action
Therapyside’s AI tools are currently in beta and offer features such as voice recognition for transcribing conversations and large-scale language models for generating clinical notes. This technology not only saves time, but also allows therapists to effectively manage more clients. Maia, an AI assistant, uses search augmented generation (RAG) to provide insightful answers to therapists’ questions.
Therapyside plans to expand its AI tools with additional language support and offline capabilities for in-person sessions. “We want to make this tool even more powerful, so it can handle administrative tasks such as calendar management and patient follow-up,” De Sario added. Ta.
Expanding scope and functionality
Founded in 2017, Therapyside works with approximately 1,000 certified therapists across Europe and offers services in English, Italian, and Spanish. To date, over 500,000 therapy sessions have been conducted through its platform.
Therapists in the beta program praise the AI tool’s accuracy and ability to increase session engagement. Alejandro A., the program’s therapist, said, “It would be very helpful to have a personalized summary and transcription highlighting the most important points from each session.”
Maia assists therapists by recalling session details such as client personal information and suggesting exercises to improve client outcomes. This feature is especially useful for therapists who manage a worldwide client base.
technical backbone
Therapyside’s AI infrastructure runs on NVIDIA GPUs in a secure cloud environment and leverages NVIDIA NIM microservices for efficient AI deployment. The transcription process uses NVIDIA Riva NIM microservices and the Llama 3.1 family of AI models to generate comprehensive session summaries.
In future updates, we aim to customize Maia for specific treatment approaches and integrate NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails for added security. Kimberly Powell, VP of Healthcare at NVIDIA, will discuss Therapyside innovations at the HLTH conference in Las Vegas.
