Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko showered praise on the critical infrastructure pioneered by Ethereum, despite the obvious conflicts between both protocols. Solana founders stated on their official X account that they like the design and vision of Ethereum.
Can Solana learn from Ethereum?
The design of most blockchain protocols is often aimed at fixing some flaws in existing rivals. The same applies to the underlying chains of ETH and SOL. Many in the cryptocurrency ecosystem consider Solana to be a major Ethereum killer given its speed and low cost.
To regain its edge, Ethereum has evolved with a number of Layer 2 protocols that leverage the functional execution layer. As Yakovenko noted, if asked to build an alternative to Bitcoin, “a design focused on the Ethereum payment layer would be the engineering direction I would go.”
This highlights how Ethereum can accommodate many execution environments and seems to speak highly of SOL innovators. Ethereum pioneered the smart contract revolution and has continued to innovate ever since. The ETH Pectra upgrade will begin soon, further enhancing the mainnet and related layer 2 solutions.
I like it @BanklessHQ And Ethereum. I also like the design and vision of Ethereum. If I were asked to build an alternative to Bitcoin, I would steer my engineering towards a design focused on the Ethereum payment layer.
If that’s the vision, Ethereum can embrace everything…

For Solana’s co-founders, establishing a main protocol that can accommodate enough blobs will help them achieve their ultimate goal of serving their users. He believes there should be no engineering obstacles or technical obstacles to designing what he envisions.
Taking advantage of this, he said he would encourage changes that would allow the protocol to pursue the innovations he just described.
Building a thriving ecosystem beyond meme coins
Today, when people talk about Solana, the main thing that comes to mind is meme coins. Ethereum also has these meme coins, but Yakovenko recently clarified the differences between the two. Amid this, while the previous protocol has marked many milestones with the help of an explosion of meme coins, Yakovenko said he wants more.
In the X post, he said that as a personal project, he wants to “guide Solana toward synchronizing the world’s information to as many subscribers as possible, as quickly as physics allows.”
Yakovenko said network congestion and outages are temporary obstacles, but they are not important because the company plans to achieve these goals one way or another.
