An upcoming HBO documentary that promises new details about the identity of pseudonymous Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto is causing a stir on crypto Twitter, with industry veterans saying the film will reveal who created the world’s first virtual currency. I’m excitedly speculating whether he claims to have invented it.
The documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery explores who actually invented Bitcoin, whether they invented it alone or with help, and the profound impact their research has since had on the global economy. We delve into issues that are still controversial. The film was directed by Karen Hoback and executive produced by The Big Short director Adam McKay.
The trailer for “Money Electric,” released Thursday, focuses on an interview with Adam Back, a British cypherpunk and cryptologist who was one of the first to receive an email from Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. I’m leaving it there. Buck was long considered a candidate for Satoshi, but he adamantly denied creating Bitcoin. A trove of emails between Buck and Satoshi released in February appears to support that claim.

On Twitter, long-time Bitcoin users were swapping rumors about who would appear as Satoshi in the documentary. Bitcoin’s creator never revealed his identity and went silent on the radio in 2011.
Alex Thorne, head of research at Galaxy, claimed to have heard that Len Sassaman was identified as Satoshi in the film. Sassaman, an American cryptologist, contributed to the cypherpunk mailing list where Satoshi first announced Bitcoin. Mr. Sassaman committed suicide in July 2011 and had long been considered a potential candidate for Mr. Satoshi.

In a darkly realistic (but hardly surprising) direction, most of the online speculation about the possibility that this documentary will reveal Satoshi’s true identity has centered around the possibility that the person identified in the film, if If so, it revolves around whether or not he is still alive. There are still around 1.1 million BTC stored in wallets connected to Satoshi, worth around $67 billion at the time of writing.
Although these funds have never been moved, it could cause panic in the Bitcoin market if it is revealed that a significant portion of the total supply of tokens is controlled by a single person who is still alive. There is.
Is Bitcoin therefore doomed? Tune into the streaming service Max on October 8th to find out… maybe.
