Web3 software developer COZ, known for its innovative work in blockchain and physical asset activation, has once again partnered with international street art festival DENVER WALLS, part of the World Wide Walls series. Announced for the event, which will run from October 3 to October 5, 2024, the collaboration aims to unite the world of blockchain technology with artistic expression in Denver’s RiNo Art District. Featuring 13 murals by renowned national and international artists, the event promises to change the way people engage with, own and share art within their communities.
Bridging art and blockchain with non-fungible items
The partnership between COZ and DENVER WALLS is more than just a creative endeavor. We bring blockchain technology to physical art installations, adding a new dimension to the way we experience art. Using proprietary engineering, COZ developed bronze plates that are mounted next to each mural. These plaques are equipped with integrated non-fungible item (NFI) technology to provide visitors with more than just information about the work and sponsor. NFI will also enable a blockchain-powered scavenger hunt, giving audiences an interactive experience of the mural.
Unlike non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are popular in the digital art world, NFIs bring blockchain into the physical realm. Visitors can scan these plaques using their NFC-enabled smartphones to access exclusive digital content, track their progress, and unlock special offers. For example, participants who visit at least two murals can redeem their blockchain-verified check-in for a free drink from Ratio Beerworks. This interactive component not only enhances the experience of festival goers, but also connects them with the broader blockchain ecosystem.
Fusion of technology and community art
COZ co-founder Tyler Adams emphasized that DENVER WALLS will provide local artists with a platform to gain global exposure while reinforcing Denver’s identity as a creative hub. He highlighted the festival’s role in integrating NFI technology and local artistry, creating a seamless fusion of artistic expression and blockchain innovation. He said the collaboration will help enrich Denver’s cultural landscape, inviting both residents and visitors to participate in the murals that bring urban spaces to life. The project will also showcase how embracing emerging technologies can enhance the local experience and celebrate the unique character of Denver neighborhoods.
One of the most notable aspects of this activation is its accessibility. Participants do not need to download any special application to enjoy the mural. Instead, a web-based app provides a digital map, checklist of waypoints, and artist information to help you navigate the festival easily. The app also handles user onboarding and enables peer-to-peer WalletConnect functionality for redeeming rewards. This user-friendly approach makes blockchain-powered festival experiences more accessible to the general public and lowers the barrier to participation in Web3 technology.
A world-class festival in Denver’s art scene
Last fall, Denver became the 25th city to host the World Wide Wall event, joining other global cities such as Tokyo, Seoul and Honolulu in celebrating street art through the festival. Under the direction of local street artist Al Grime, Denver Walls 2024 will feature mural painting, including live 3-on-3 paint battles at Blue Moon, drawing workshops for all ages, and an exclusive gallery show at the Red Line. A variety of activities will be the highlight. , a block party at RiNo ArtPark.
Grime emphasized that DENVER WALLS not only aims to beautify the city with murals, but also to foster spaces where art brings people together and encourages conversation. Our collaboration with COZ allows each piece of art to be fused with technology to tell a story while supporting local businesses and advancing Denver’s creative energy. This year’s festival aims to offer locals and visitors alike a unique experience that interweaves art, community and cutting-edge blockchain technology.
Redefining the street art experience
By integrating blockchain and street art, COZ and DENVER WALLS are reimagining the way we experience art in urban environments. This festival demonstrates the potential for technology to enhance not only the artistic process, but also community engagement with the arts. As Web3 continues to evolve, efforts like this offer a glimpse into the future of how blockchain can intersect with culture and transform everyday interactions into immersive, technology-driven experiences.
COZ’s continued partnership with DENVER WALLS not only showcases innovative technology, but also highlights the importance of supporting local artistry and community engagement. As blockchain and Web3 technologies continue to expand, their applications in the physical art world are likely to expand as well, providing new ways for people to interact with creative expression in public spaces.
