Several blockchain-related names are launching this week.
There are some interesting announcements in the blockchain naming space this week.
First, Orange Domains will make .locker generally available on Wednesday.
.Locker is a “real” top-level domain name with web functionality. However, it also features Web3 technology due to its integration with the Bitcoin Naming System (BNS).
The early access phase ends today and there are currently approximately 50 domains in the .locker zone. On Wednesday, registrars like GoDaddy and Namecheap will start offering domains at regular prices.
Most registrars seem to charge around $70-$90 per year, but 101Domain is currently offering the first year for just $29.99.
Separately, D3 today announced the launch of *ape for the Bored Ape Yacht Club community.
The company uses * instead of . Because that name isn’t a real domain yet. To do so, the company must successfully obtain a domain through ICANN’s new Top-Level Domain Program.
Currently, customers can reserve *ape names using web3 functionality. Once a company successfully acquires an .ape, general web functionality will be added.
*The Monkey’s Name is on sale for a $30 value.
