As discussion continued, Billy Marcus suggested Hal Finney as a potential creator. Polymarket data showed the general belief that Satoshi’s identity remained “unproven in the fourth quarter.”
HBO’s recent documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” has been in the news for reigniting the conspiracy surrounding the true identity of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.
The documentary hinted that Peter Todd, a prominent Bitcoin (BTC) core developer, may be Nakamoto, a claim that Todd unequivocally and categorically dismissed.
“I’m not Satoshi.”
However, his denial has not quieted the debate, as others have also weighed in, fueling further speculation about the elusive figure behind BTC’s origins.
Did Dogecoin’s founder reveal the real Satoshi?
Amid the recent buzz caused by an HBO documentary, Dogecoin (DOGE) founder Billy Marcus shared his thoughts on the true identity of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.
He told X (formerly Twitter) that he dismissed claims that Peter Todd could be the creator of BTC, stating:
“He (Peter Todd) is one of the core developers of OG, but he’s not the creator.”
When asked for his thoughts on Nakamoto’s true identity, Marcus didn’t hesitate to suggest his own theory, saying:
“Hal Finney and His Friends”
This playful response further piqued curiosity and added a new perspective to the enduring mystery of Bitcoin’s origins.
For those unfamiliar, Billy Marcus, known online as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, is one of the earliest figures in the world of cryptocurrencies.
Marcus launched DOGE in 2013 alongside Jackson Palmer, using BTC’s codebase to create the now iconic meme coin.
Why did Billy Marcus choose Hull?
Marcus may have mentioned Hal Finney as a likely candidate to create Bitcoin due to Finney’s strong reputation in cryptography and early involvement with BTC.
For context, Finney, a respected computer scientist, was one of the first users of Bitcoin and received his first transaction of 10 BTC from Nakamoto on January 12, 2009.
His work on Reusable Proofs of Work (RPOW) and his work in the cypherpunk community further supports this theory.
But suspicions remain, as Finney has clearly denied any involvement and even shared email correspondence and wallet details to debunk the claims.
Finney’s deteriorating health, diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in 2009, would have made it difficult to sustain Bitcoin’s challenging development.
Notably, some see similarities between his writing and Nakamoto’s, while others point to distinct differences in communication and coding styles.
Polymarket and Bitcoin trends
As such, as speculation swirls about the identity of Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Polymarket data reflects a consensus leaning toward “unproven in Q4,” indicating that the mystery is This suggests that it is likely to remain unresolved this quarter as well.
Meanwhile, BTC fell into a downtrend, trading at $61,181.41 after falling 1.51% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
