Senate candidate John Deaton reenters SEC vs. Ripple battle
On Friday, Massachusetts Senate candidate and attorney John E. Deaton commented on rejoining SEC v. Ripple:
“Senator Elizabeth Warren literally called me out when she said during the debate that I was working for free to support the 75,000 token holders who joined me, including 627 residents of Massachusetts. Well, she can laugh a little more, because as a sitting U.S. senator and as a private citizen, I will continue to represent them in this ridiculous lawsuit by the SEC.”
Deaton added that America must be a world leader in innovation, so someone must represent XRP token holders.
In 2023, Deaton represented 75,000 XRP holders in SEC v. Ripple, which influenced a ruling on programmatic sales of XRP. In July 2023, Judge Annalisa Torres ruled that programmatic sales of XRP did not meet Step 3 of the Howie test.
Deaton also noted Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen’s recent donation to US Vice President Kamala Harris, saying:
“In fact, XRP is so legal that Chris Larsen, who was personally sued by the SEC (along with Brad Garlinghouse) over private sales of I just donated 10,000 XRP and am also being sued by the same rogue out-of-control SEC led by an unethical and corrupt chairman named Gary Gensler.”
