Freedom Factory has announced the launch of dGEN1, a mobile device designed to make on-chain cryptocurrency transactions more accessible.
Scheduled to ship in spring 2025. dGEN1 is positioned as an everyday carry (EDC) device that allows users to interact with decentralized applications (dapps) without the need for third-party intermediaries or hidden fees.
“Cryptography is no longer limited to desktop and browser applications, on-chain is now seamless,” Marcus Haas, CEO of Freedom Factory and co-creator of dGEN1, said in a statement shared with Decrypt. mentioned in. He explained that by integrating Ethereum at the operating system level, dGEN1 “removes the friction and complexity of cryptocurrency interactions” and frees it from the limitations imposed by traditional platforms.
dGEN1 is built around ethOS v4.0, an Ethereum-based operating system, and comes with a dapp store that supports Ethereum and Layer 2 (L2) applications. Thanks to L2 integration, this device enables faster and cheaper transactions while eliminating the need for separate wallets or browser extensions. Onboard light nodes allow users to validate transactions directly on the device, adding an extra layer of security.
Pre-orders for dGEN1 are currently being accepted on the Freedom Factory website, priced at 0.2 ETH or 61,296 DEGEN, with worldwide shipping expected to begin in Spring 2025.
In addition to transactional capabilities, dGEN1 includes integrated cryptographic messaging, allowing users to “securely communicate within the on-chain ecosystem.” The device is intended to serve as a tool for cryptocurrency enthusiasts who want more control over their digital assets, combining the functionality of a hardware wallet with the convenience of a mobile device.
Founded in 2021, Freedom Factory has secured investment from some of the biggest names in the cryptocurrency space, including Balaji Srinivasan and Vitalik Buterin, in addition to support from organizations such as NounsDAO and Optimism Foundation.
The company’s mission is to advance the adoption of on-chain technology, and dGEN1 focuses on security, ease of use, and digital sovereignty, and seeks a more direct way to interact with blockchain-based platforms. We are committed to providing our users with alternatives.
“The on-chain future is seamless, and it’s now in your pocket,” Haas said.
